A wedding bed design is about the new furniture that goes into the room after the shadi, not the flowers on the night. In many Indian families a new bed, often with side tables and a dresser, is part of setting up the new room, and it has to be ready and polished before the house fills with guests.
These marriage double bed design photos show 6 original beds: three carved and cushioned wooden ones and three simpler modern options, each with size and build. Use the timeline below so the carpenter is not rushing. For bigger frames see our king size bed gallery; for a richer look visit royal bed designs.
Wedding Bed Design Wooden: Carved and Cushioned Bridal Beds
A solid wood bridal bed design remains what most families pick, since the bed is expected to serve for decades. These three mix carving, cushions and a little gold.

- SizeKing 72 x 78 in
- BuildTeak, walnut PU, fabric
- StorageHydraulic lift
A carved teak border frames a tufted cream cushion, so the bed feels rich and still comfortable to sit up in. Sized for a 12 x 13 ft room.
Tell your carpenterBook at least 8 weeks ahead; carving and PU polish both need time to cure.

- SizeQueen 60 x 78 in
- BuildSheesham, dark melamine
- StorageLift-up box
Four turned posts hold a light frame for a mosquito net or a thin drape. It gives the room a traditional bridal bed look and is useful every night.
Tell your carpenterAsk for posts that unscrew from the base, so the bed fits through the door and the stairs.

- SizeKing 72 x 78 in
- BuildPly, walnut veneer, SS
- StorageHydraulic lift
Forward curving wings and fine gold patti on walnut give a modern bridal look without heavy carving. Easy to match with a dresser in the same finish.
Tell your carpenterOrder the dresser and side tables in the same veneer batch so the colour matches.
New Bed Design for Wedding Rooms: Simple and Modern Options
If you want the wedding bed design simple, these are easier to build in a few weeks and fit smaller rooms. Each double bed design for wedding here still has storage.

- SizeQueen 60 x 75 in
- BuildFabric, ply base
- StorageHydraulic lift
Three tall upholstered panels in ivory give a clean, bright look that suits light walls and family photos on the wall later.
Tell your carpenterChoose a stain resistant fabric in ivory, as pale cloth marks easily in the first busy weeks.

- SizeDouble 48 x 75 in
- BuildPly, oak laminate
- StorageHead box, lift-up box
A light oak double with a slim head box and two lamps fits a family flat bedroom of about 10 by 11 ft. A carpenter can finish it in two to three weeks.
Tell your carpenterAsk for edge banding on every cut edge so the laminate does not lift in humid weather.

- SizeKing 72 x 78 in
- BuildVelvet, ply base
- StorageSide drawers
Deep maroon velvet in wide channels feels festive yet not fussy. Keep the room calm with cream walls and plain sheets.
Tell your carpenterAsk for foam density on the headboard and a removable cover if possible.
When to Order a Bed for the Wedding
| Weeks before | Step |
|---|---|
| 10 to 12 | Measure the room, buy or fix the mattress size, shortlist designs |
| 8 to 10 | Confirm the design, wood or ply, finish and fabric with the carpenter |
| 4 to 6 | Check work in progress: joints, box, carving |
| 2 to 3 | Polish and upholstery finished; let PU cure |
| 1 to 2 | Delivery, fitting and checking pistons and drawers |
A simple laminate bed can be made in about three weeks. Carved solid wood and PU polish need the longer timeline. Wedding months are the busiest season for carpenters, so book early even for a plain bed, and keep a written note of the size, finish and delivery date you agreed.
Bridal Bed Set Design: What a Set Includes
A bridal bed set usually means the bed plus matching side tables, and often a dresser and wardrobe in the same finish. Ordering all pieces together keeps the colour and grain the same.
- Bed: queen or king, with box or drawers.
- Two side tables: one for each side.
- Dresser: see our bed with dressing table ideas.
- Wardrobe: check that its doors have 3 ft of clear floor in front.
Carving, solid teak or sheesham, velvet and hydraulic fittings raise the cost of a set. Laminate on good ply with simple panels costs less and still looks neat.
Checks at Delivery
- Open and close the box lid five or six times. It must glide up and hold its position.
- Look under the bed for raw, unsealed edges.
- Sit on each corner and listen for creaks.
- Check that polish is fully dry and not sticky, and that fabric is stapled neatly at the back.
- Ask the delivery team to fit the bed in place and remove all packing before they leave, as moving a full box bed later needs four people.
Questions people ask
What is a shadi bed design?
It is the new bed ordered for the wedding room, usually a queen or king box bed in wood or ply with a cushioned or carved headboard, often bought as a set.
Which size is best for a wedding bed?
For most wedding rooms a queen, with its 60 inch mattress, is the safe pick. Go for a king, 72 inches wide, only when the wall behind the bed is 12 ft or longer. More on room sizes is on our couple bed design page.
Wood or plywood for a bed design for marriage?
Solid teak or sheesham lasts generations and can be re-polished. Quality plywood finished in veneer or sunmica (decorative laminate) is faster to make and lighter on cost.
Should the bed have a hydraulic box?
Yes, if the room is small. The box takes extra quilts and gifts that arrive after the wedding.
How early should we order?
Give a carved wooden bed 8 to 12 weeks. A plain laminate bed can be ready in 3 weeks, but leave a buffer for delays.
Can we have a net frame on a modern bed?
Yes. Four slim posts or a ceiling mounted frame can hold a mosquito net over any bed. See canopy bed designs for more.
