Bed attached dressing table design where the headboard panel extends into a dresser

A bed with dressing table design solves a common problem in Indian flats: there is no spare wall for a separate dresser. Fixing the dressing unit to the side of the bed, or building it into the headboard wall, gives you a place to sit, get ready and store jewellery and creams without losing floor.

Below you will see 9 designs in three groups: dressers attached to the bed, matching sets on separate walls and slim modern units for small rooms. Every bed design with dressing table here is labelled with its mattress, its board or wood, and where it stores things. After the gallery come dresser sizes, a placement guide and fixes for common mistakes.

To plan the room first, see our bedroom planning hub. If you also need a wardrobe, read our bed with wardrobe page.

Bed Attached Dressing Table Design: Built Into the Headboard Wall

Here the dresser is one piece with the bed or its headboard panel. It saves the most floor and looks planned, not added.

Bed attached dressing table design where the headboard panel extends into a dresser
  • SizeQueen 60 x 75 in
  • BuildPly, oak and white
  • StorageHydraulic lift

The headboard panel runs on past the bed and drops down into a dresser counter with drawers. The stool tucks under when not in use.

Tell your carpenterKeep the dresser counter at 30 in high and leave a 24 in wide knee space for the stool.

Bed side dressing table design fixed to the frame of a double bed
  • SizeDouble 48 x 75 in
  • BuildPly, walnut laminate
  • StorageBox with lift-up top

A narrow dresser fixed to the bed's side frame works like a large side table with a mirror above it. A sensible choice where the room is only 10 ft square.

Tell your carpenterBolt the dresser to the bed frame through a ply spacer so the two can be separated for moving.

Bed design with side dressing table set in a lit niche of the panel wall
  • SizeKing 72 x 78 in
  • BuildPly, fluted walnut
  • StorageHydraulic lift

The dresser sits in a lit recess at one end of a panelled wall behind the king bed. Lights in the niche help with makeup at night.

Tell your carpenterUse warm white strip light on both sides of the mirror, not just above, so the face has no shadows.

Wooden Bed and Dressing Table Design Sets on Separate Walls

A matching dresser on the wall opposite or beside the bed keeps the bed area calm. These sets share one wood and polish.

  • SizeQueen 60 x 78 in
  • BuildSheesham, walnut polish
  • Storage2 side drawers

Sheesham bed and dresser with the same simple carved border. The dresser stands on the side wall so the mirror catches window light.

Tell your carpenterOrder both pieces from the same timber lot so grain and colour match after polishing.

  • SizeDouble 48 x 78 in
  • BuildTeak, honey melamine
  • StorageBox with lift-up top

This double bed with dressing table design pairs the bed with a low teak dresser, a tall mirror and padded stool sits across the room from the bed. Leave 3 ft in front of it to sit and stand comfortably.

Tell your carpenterFit soft-close channels on the dresser drawers and line them with felt for jewellery.

Bed and dressing table design set in white duco with curved edges
  • SizeKing 72 x 78 in
  • BuildMDF and ply, white duco
  • StorageHydraulic lift

Curved white duco pieces with soft gold knobs suit a bright room. Duco can be repainted later if it chips.

Tell your carpenterA smooth duco job needs three coats or more, sanded lightly between each one.

Modern Bed Design with Dressing Table for Small Rooms

When floor is tight, a dresser can float on the wall, fold away or hide inside a wardrobe shutter.

Modern bed with dressing table design: a floating wall-mounted counter
  • SizeDouble 48 x 75 in
  • BuildPly, grey matte laminate
  • StorageHydraulic lift

A floating counter fixed to the wall next to the bed leaves the floor open below. A round mirror above and a small pouf finish the corner.

Tell your carpenterFix the floating counter on concealed brackets into brick, with a front lip so bottles stay put.

Dressing table with bed design using a corner unit in a small room
  • SizeSingle 36 x 75 in
  • BuildPly, pastel laminate
  • Storage3 under-bed drawers

A triangular corner dresser uses the dead corner beside the bed. Shelves on both walls hold perfumes and hair dryers.

Tell your carpenterMake the corner counter 20 in deep on each wall and add a socket under the top for a dryer.

Bed dressing design with a fold-down dresser panel in the wardrobe end
  • SizeQueen 60 x 75 in
  • BuildPly, sand laminate
  • StorageHydraulic lift

A dresser hides inside the end panel of the wardrobe next to the bed. The flap folds down as a counter, then closes flat.

Tell your carpenterUse stay hinges rated for the flap weight and a magnetic catch to hold it closed.

Bed with Dressing Table Design: Sizes That Work

Any bed dressing table design should start from these working numbers.

TypeWidthDepthCounter height
Sit-down dresser36 to 48 in16 to 18 in28 to 30 in
Bed side dresser18 to 24 in14 to 16 inAt mattress top
Floating counter30 to 42 in12 to 15 in28 to 30 in
Corner unit20 in each wallTriangular28 to 30 in

Stools are usually 17 to 18 in high. Leave about 3 ft clear in front of a sit-down dresser so you can pull the stool out.

Where to Put the Dresser and Mirror

  • Put the dresser where daylight falls on your face, not behind you.
  • Many families prefer the mirror not to face the bed. Place it on a side wall or angle it.
  • Keep a socket at counter height for a hair dryer or straightener.
  • If the dresser is attached to the bed, keep it on the side away from the entry door so it does not narrow the walkway.

Matching side units are covered on the side table page. For a full matched set, see furniture bed sets.

Questions people ask

Can a dressing table be attached to the bed?

Yes. It can be fixed to the bed's side frame or built into the headboard panel. Ask the carpenter to bolt it, not glue it, so the bed can be moved later.

Which bed with dressing design suits a tiny room best?

A floating wall counter or a corner dresser next to the bed. Both leave floor space and need no extra wall.

Should the mirror face the bed?

Many people prefer it does not, for comfort and for light at night. A side wall or an angled mirror works well.

What height should a dressing table be?

About 28 to 30 in for a sit-down unit, with a stool of 17 to 18 in. A dresser beside the bed can match the mattress top instead.

Teak, sheesham or ply: what suits a wooden bed and dressing table design?

Teak and sheesham both last long and take polish well. Ply with laminate or veneer is lighter and costs less. For wood choices see our wooden bed page.
