A furniture bed design is rarely just the bed. In most Indian furniture markets the bed comes as a set with two side tables, often a dressing unit and sometimes a wardrobe, all in one finish. Knowing what a set should include, and what to inspect when it arrives, saves arguments later.
People search for this as farnichar bed design too, which is simply the spoken Hindi way of saying furniture. Whatever you call it, the gallery below shows 12 sets and single beds, each tagged with mattress size, material and storage, followed by a set contents table, a shop vs carpenter comparison and a delivery checklist.
To plan the room before you buy, read our bedroom planning guide. For a set with built-in clothes storage, see bed with wardrobe ideas.
Bed Set Furniture Design: Bed, Side Tables and Dresser in One Finish
These are full sets made to match. Buying them together means one veneer, one polish shade and one set of handles across the room.

- SizeKing 72 x 78 in
- BuildWalnut veneer, PU
- StorageHydraulic lift
The classic five piece set: bed, two side tables, dressing unit and stool. It suits a 12 x 14 ft room where every piece gets its own wall.
Tell your carpenterSide table tops should match the mattress height, or sit a touch below it.

- SizeQueen 60 x 75 in
- BuildPly, white gloss laminate
- StorageBox with lift-up top
White high gloss with thin golden handles is a common market favourite. It makes a dark room brighter but shows finger marks.
Tell your carpenterAsk for edge band in the same gloss and peel the protective film only after the set is installed.

- SizeDouble 48 x 78 in
- BuildTeak, natural melamine
- Storage2 side drawers
A tall chest of drawers instead of a dresser gives more folded storage in less floor. Good for rooms with a built-in wardrobe already.
Tell your carpenterFit drawer runners rated for heavy loads in the chest and ask for dovetail joints on the drawer boxes.
New Farnichar Bed Design Seen in Furniture Markets Right Now
These are the looks shop owners say move fastest lately. Each is shown on its own so you can judge the bed, not the decoration.

- SizeKing 72 x 78 in
- BuildGrey fabric, golden SS
- StorageHydraulic lift
Golden SS patti strips divide a grey fabric headboard into neat panels. A popular furniture design bed for newly married couples' rooms.
Tell your carpenterInsist on SS patti strips; gold paint on plain metal fades within a few years.

- SizeQueen 60 x 78 in
- BuildMDF, ivory duco paint
- StorageBox with lift-up top
Router-cut patterns on the headboard give the look of carving at a lower cost. Duco paint in ivory hides the board underneath well.
Tell your carpenterAsk what board is under the paint; routed MDF must be fully sealed so it never swells.

- SizeDouble 48 x 75 in
- BuildPly, wenge and cream
- StorageHydraulic lift
Dark wenge with cream panels is a safe two-tone pick that hides daily wear. Shopkeepers say buyers request it more than most new designs.
Tell your carpenterCheck laminate joints at the headboard corners; they should meet with no gap or lifted edge.
Furniture Bed Design Photos: Solid Wood Beds That Last
Solid wood costs more but survives moves, monsoons and children jumping on it. These furniture bed design photos show three trusted woods.

- SizeQueen 60 x 78 in
- BuildSheesham, light walnut
- StorageNone, open legs
A curved footboard keeps blankets from sliding off. Sheesham's dark streaks look best under a clear or light brown polish.
Tell your carpenterAsk whether the wood is kiln dried; air dried sheesham can crack in AC rooms.

- SizeDouble 48 x 78 in
- BuildMango wood, honey polish
- StorageBox with lift-up top
Mango wood is lighter and costs less than teak, and a jali cut headboard makes it look crafted. Needs termite treatment before polish.
Tell your carpenterInsist on anti-termite treatment of all hidden faces, then two coats of sealer before polish.

- SizeKing 72 x 75 in
- BuildTeak, dark melamine
- StorageNone, open legs
Turned legs and an arched headboard in teak give an old-world look that matches inherited furniture. Air flows under the bed, which helps in humid towns.
Tell your carpenterAsk for legs bolted to the frame through corner blocks, not just glued.
Bed Design Furniture Latest: Compact Sets for City Flats
Smaller flats need sets that do more with less. These latest pieces fold storage into the bed itself.

- SizeDouble 48 x 75 in
- BuildPly, light ash laminate
- StorageHydraulic lift
A wall shelf above the headboard replaces side tables in a narrow room. The bed and shelf share one laminate so they read as one unit.
Tell your carpenterMount the shelf a good 30 in over the mattress so sitting up never bumps your head.

- SizeQueen 60 x 75 in
- BuildPly, sage laminate
- StorageHydraulic lift
Side units fixed to the headboard save floor and move with the bed. Each holds a drawer and an open shelf.
Tell your carpenterMake the attached side units 15 in wide and add a cable hole for phone chargers.

- SizeSingle 36 x 75 in
- BuildPly, pine laminate
- Storage3 under-bed drawers
A single bed with a matching desk and shelf suits a 9 by 10 ft room for a student or an elderly parent who reads a lot.
Tell your carpenterUse full extension channels on the under-bed drawers so the back of each drawer is reachable.
What a Bed Set Should Include
| Set type | Pieces | Room it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Basic set | Bed and 2 side tables | From 10 x 10 ft |
| Standard set | Bed, 2 side tables, dressing unit with stool | From 11 x 12 ft |
| Full set | Bed, 2 side tables, dresser, wardrobe | From 12 x 14 ft |
| Compact set | Bed with attached side units and a wall shelf | From 9 x 10 ft |
Ask the shop to write down every piece, its size and its finish on the bill. A set with a mirror unit often lists the mirror separately.
Shop-Made Set or Carpenter-Made Bed: How They Compare
| Point | Furniture shop set | Carpenter at home |
|---|---|---|
| Board | Often particle board or MDF, sometimes ply | Usually 18 or 19 mm ply or solid wood |
| Size | Fixed sizes only | Built to your mattress and room |
| Time | Ready in days | Two to four weeks of work |
| Finish | Factory laminate or paint | Laminate, veneer, PU or duco by choice |
| Repairs | Hard if the board swells | Easy to open and fix |
Particle board and MDF swell when wet and hold screws less firmly, so keep them off damp floors. Read more on our particle board and MDF bed page and our plywood bed page.
Delivery Day Checklist for a New Bed Set
- Open every drawer and lift the storage lid fully. Listen for scraping.
- Turn your eye to the underside of the lid. You want ply or solid wood there, not thin hardboard.
- Run a hand along laminate edges. Edge band tape should be smooth with no gaps.
- Check that all side tables and the dresser are the same shade under daylight, not just shop light.
- Push the bed corner hard. It should not rock or creak.
- Keep the bill with the board type and piston rating written on it.
Questions people ask
What does farnichar bed design mean?
Farnichar is how many people say and type furniture in Hindi. A farnichar bed design simply means a bed design from a furniture shop or market, often sold as a set.
Which is the best new furniture bed design for a small room?
A double bed with side units attached to the headboard and a hydraulic base. It needs no separate side tables and stores quilts under the mattress.
Is a shop bed set as strong as a carpenter-made bed?
It depends on the board. Ask what the sides and top are made of. A set in ply or solid wood can match a carpenter's work; particle board sets are lighter and weaker when wet.
Should the side tables be the same height as the bed?
Match them to the mattress height, or drop them by up to 2 in, so a glass or phone is easy to reach while lying down. See more on our bed side table page.
How long does a good bed furniture design last?
A solid wood or ply bed with a good finish lasts many years with basic care. Hydraulic pistons may need replacing after some years, and fabric headboards may need new covers.
Can I order a matching set later if I buy only the bed now?
It is hard to match veneer and polish shades later. If you plan a set, buy or order all pieces together, or keep a sample of the laminate code.
